How to Prepare a Jobsite for Concrete Pumping

Good jobsite preparation can make a concrete pour safer and more efficient. Before the pump arrives, the project team should consider access, truck positioning, the placement area and the planned sequence of the pour.

Clear the Pump Access Area

Make sure the equipment has a suitable route to the jobsite and that unnecessary vehicles, materials and other obstacles are moved out of the working area.

Plan the Concrete Truck Position

The pump and concrete trucks need enough room to position safely and operate efficiently. Consider the entrance, turning area, work zone and location where concrete will be placed.

Prepare the Placement Area

Forms, reinforcement and the placement area should be ready before concrete arrives. The crew should understand where the pour will begin and how concrete will move through the placement area.

Communicate the Pour Schedule

Coordination between the concrete supplier, pump operator and placement crew is important. A clear schedule helps everyone understand when the trucks and pumping equipment need to be ready.
